A bad editor can wreck your book.

But the right editor?

She can help you publish a bestseller.

Indie authors already wear a hundred hats.

Writing, publishing, marketing, managing social media…oh, and yeah…maybe also holding down a 9-to-5 and/or raising a family.

You don’t have time to waste with an editor who doesn’t get your voice, your struggles, or your goals.

That’s where I come in.

Editing Services I Offer...

Line Editing (aka "Copy Editing"

Whichever term you use for it, this type of editing is the one most authors think of when they start the process of seeking an editor.

Most editors will find and fix issues related to spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

And while those are certainly important and part of what you get when you hire us for this service, because my Elite Editors and I have over a dozen years of experience under our belts each, we know there is so much more to a full and comprehensive line edit.

That’s why we will also find and fix issues in your manuscript draft related to:

  • sentence structure
  • passive v active voice
  • word choice issues
  • telling v showing
  • syntax (awkward wording)
  • narrative voice
  • dialogue structure
  • minor inconsistencies
  • minor plot holes

And so, so much more!

Starting Standard Per-Word Rate: 0.025

Content Editing (aka "Developmental")

Many authors don’t think they need a content edit for their manuscript, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Even if you have spent months working with beta readers (something I do NOT recommend authors do any longer), betas are not professional book editors.

You need skilled and experienced eyes looking at your entire story, from start to finish, with objective, unbiased eyes.

A comprehensive content edit also helps you improve your storytelling skills by finding and recommending changes to the story’s overall structure and development, among other things.

Here are just some of the issues we look for when providing you with a content/developmental edit:

  • character development
  • worldbuilding issues
  • scene setting issues
  • major plot holes
  • overall story structure
  • narrative pacing
  • story theme clarity
  • timeline inconsistencies
  • narrative tone and style

And so very much more!

Final Proofreading

This type of editing, while faster and seemingly easier, is an absolute CANNOT skip for indie authors!

The final proofread is the last chance you have at fixing any and all glaring typos and mistakes before your book faces readers around the world!

Even if you’ve had a different editor provide you with line and/or content editing, if you’ve never had a final proofread done professionally…this is a MUST!

Final proofreading is the last round of edits your manuscript will undergo before you publish it, and I assign a completely different editor for this round, so you have a fresh (yet still professional and trusted) pair of eyes on your book before it hits shelves.

Your proofreader will go through your manuscript with the utmost attention to detail, and they will find and fix any and all new and remaining issues (after your revisions), including:

  • spelling
  • grammar
  • punctuation
  • repetitious words
  • dialogue structure
  • narrative structure
  • scene breaks
  • syntax
  • duplicate and redundant words

And so, so much more!

Starting Standard Per-Word Rate: 0.015

Before you whip out your calculator...

Please know that the rates listed above are not just in alignment with those recommended by the Editorial Freelancers Association, they are standard starting rates!

That means, if you just dusted off your elementary school math and multiplied the rates listed above by your final wordcount…you’re WAY off!

Why?

Because…you see…I’m not just an author coach and editor…I’m an author, too!

That means, more than most, I know what it’s like to need professional editing but have my jaw drop to the floor when I see their rates and think, “NO WAY could I afford that!”

That’s why I always offer ways to make my competitive fees as affordable as possible, and I always offer several manageable and flexible payment plan options!

On top of that, any professional book editor worth their weight in gold would never EVER quote any project without at least seeing the first few pages and providing the author with a free sample edit.

Free Sample Edit & Quote

Every day almost, an author asks me, “How much do you charge for editing?”

And I get it.

Sadly, there are way, way, way too many so-called “editors” out there – from the completely unskilled and unqualified all the way to total scam artists.

And without exception, ANY “editor” who offers to edit your book, sight unseen, for a flat quoted rate is at best inexperienced.

I’ve been in this industry long enough to know that the only way an author and editor can know for sure they are a good match for working together is through a FREE sample edit, and that’s why I offer them to every interested author.

Here’s what to expect from the time you click one of the blue buttons on this page:

You fill out the short form on the next page entirely

You email your first 5 pages (and prologue, if applicable) to the email on the form

Within 24 hours (often much sooner), I email you back with the following:

  • thorough and detailed line edits (using track changes inside your doc)
  • comprehensive and complete content edits (on a separate memo with page numbers for reference)
  • a short video summarizing my thoughts and recommendations for your story

AND IF I CAN TAKE ON YOUR MANUSCRIPT (NOT GUARANTEED BUT 92.37% PROBABLE):

I will also send you an official proposal which clearly reflects my starting total rate, any discounts offered, combo package options, payment plan options, and your promised turnaround time!

Ready to see what a professional, skilled, and experienced editor can do for you and your book baby?

Where I shine the brightest....

With nearly two decades of experience editing books of all genres, and with an amazing team of Elite Editors, who have as much (or more) experience as me, there’s really not a genre we’ve not worked on or wouldn’t accept.

But here are some genres we have edited most frequently of late (in no particular order…this is not an exclusive list):

  • Fantasy (all subgenres)
  • Contemporary Romance (all subgenres)
  • Horror
  • Suspense
  • Thriller
  • Dystopian
  • Paranormal (all subgenres)
  • Supernatural
  • Science Fiction

I personally specialize in editing books for female entrepreneurs, coaches, and speakers, who want to attract more of their ideal clients and increase their business revenue, including:

  • Business books (all niches)
  • Self-Help
  • Spiritual/Christian
  • Memoirs

Again, there’s not much we haven’t or wouldn’t edit at this point, but please take note that, as the Owner and Chief Editor, I reserve the right to decide which projects are right for me and my team. If, after providing you with a FREE sample edit, you are not offered a Proposal, I will send you the reasons for same, and to the best of my ability, I will send you a list of my colleagues who may be a better fit.
